The segment covers a revived movement by a Florida surgeon called “The surgicalist model”. It addresses the threatened quality of acute surgical care in the U.S. due to a shortage of surgeons performing emergency procedures, rising costs of uncompensated care, liability concerns, declining reimbursement, retiring surgeons and lifestyle considerations.Mit Desai, MD, FACS and Principal and CEO of The Surgicalist Group, introduces viewers to a growing number of doctors who have embraced the surgicalist model. The segment explains how the movement improves timeliness of care, physician satisfaction, emergency surgery scheduling, continuity of care, patient satisfaction and revenue increases.
